Heal Your Bites!

Summer days often bring sunshine, cooling off in the local swimming hole, and getting a much-deserved reprieve from the hectic school year. However, during these warmer months, whether you’re spending a weekend at a mountain cabin or attending an outdoor dinner party, mosquitos love to make their appearance during the dawn and dusk hours.

In most families, there’s generally one person who is the mosquito’s favorite. There are many theories as to why, but rest assured, Homeopathy is here to help! Got those itchy bites? Arm yourself with one of the top remedies to help ease and heal mosquito bites.

Front and center for itchy bites is Ledum Palustre. This remedy, made from Wild Rosemary (a flowering evergreen shrub), is best used for insect bites that itch and are relieved by cool compress. Ledum is also effective for puncture wounds and bruises which feel better with ice-cold applications.

If the bite produces a hive-like reaction, then Ledum is not your best bet.  Stay tuned, we will talk about that one next month.

During our 2017 vacation to Bali, I noticed a large, quarter-sized bite on the side of Michael’s neck. Bali not only has stunning scenery, amazing wildlife, and majestic temples, but their mosquitoes can carry diseases, particularly Dengue Fever.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne disease caused by the bite of the mosquito carrying the dengue virus. People living in tropical and subtropical areas are more prone to this disease which is also known as ‘Breakbone Fever’. We absolutely wanted to avoid that disease. Mosquitos simply adore Michael so I was prepared!

Informed with the knowledge of using Ledum Palustre for mosquito bites (especially when potentially dealing with those mosquito diseases), I grabbed my 200c, gave him a dose, and was able to repeat Ledum three times before he fell asleep.

The following day, we woke with amazement to witness that his bite had shrunk down to the size of a pencil eraser. We continued to dose throughout the day but methodically spaced out the frequency as we observed the size and redness decreasing. In short order, the bite resolved itself and we saw no lasting effects.

As the summer months continue to blaze and those mosquitos seek their perfect feast, be sure to equip yourself with Ledum Palustre.
